One treatment for varicose veins is called Sclerotherapy. Today, this is the most common remedy for varicose veins where our qualified doctors will inject a solution into the affected vein. The solution will make the vein swell, seal shut, and turn in to scar tissue in a matter of weeks. The procedure itself only takes over an hour to perform and you will be able to get home right after. Sclerotherapy is virtually painless and provides quick results.
Usually, Sclerotherapy is recommended for patients with veins that have already reached a considerable size or when the visible vein is already bluish or violet in colour.
Another treatment for varicose veins is the laser treatment. Also available here at Ashbury, this treatment method will use strong bursts of light that are sent in to the vein in a controlled and accurate manner. What this does is cause the veins to fade and disappear. Laser treatments are very effective in removing smaller varicose veins but it will usually require two to five treatments depending on the size of the vein. Also, for larger veins or varicose veins that are over 3mm in size, Sclerotherapy is recommended.
Another laser treatment for varicose vein removal is known as the EVLT or the endo venous laser therapy. This can be done in the doctor's office and the procedure usually takes more or less an hour to perform. This is considered to be a high tech version of Sclerotherapy which involves inserting a tiny catheter or laser fibre in to the affected vein. The doctor will then send a radio frequency or laser energy ablation in to the affected vein, which will shrink and seal it shut.
These are the new methods for treating varicose veins. Here at Ashbury, removing varicose veins is easy and painless. With these new treatment options, you will no longer have to put up with long hospital stays, painful surgery and visible scars that can be a lot worse than having varicose veins.
